Firm's History

Our firm was established in 2000 with a clear commitment to providing practical, reliable, and client focused legal services. Over the years, we have grown into a well-established practice known for our professionalism, approachability, and dedication to achieving effective solutions for our clients.
Our practice encompasses a broad range of legal services, with extensive experience in civil matters, including family-related matters, contractual and commercial issues, employment disputes, and general civil litigation. We regularly advise and represent individuals, businesses, and institutions across a wide spectrum of cases, from early advisory and documentation stages through to negotiations, dispute resolution, and court proceedings.
With the growth of Syariah law in Malaysia, we have established Noran Abu Bakar & Associates to dedicate exclusive focus to Syariah-related matters and cases, while remaining committed to Noran Abu Bakar & Co. as our primary civil practice. Since 2010, our Syariah practice has been appointed as a panel firm for Majlis Agama Islam dan Adat Melayu Perak (MAIPK), reflecting the trust placed in our expertise and professional capability.

Our Team

Noran Asma

Founder / Principle Partner

Qualification:
Puan Noran Asma is the Founder and Principal Partner of the firm, with over three decades of experience in legal practice, academia, and professional leadership. She graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) from the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) in 1992 and subsequently obtained her Diploma in Syariah Legal Practice (DSLP) from IIUM in 1998. She was called to the Malaysian Bar in 1998.

She commenced her professional career in academia, serving as a Law Lecturer at Politeknik Ungku Omar from 1992 to 1997, before entering legal practice. Since 2010, the firm has been appointed as a panel solicitor for Majlis Agama Islam dan Adat Melayu Perak (MAIPK), reflecting the firm’s longstanding involvement in matters pertaining to Islamic law and institutional representation.
She has held numerous leadership and committee appointments within the legal fraternity, including Chairman of the Biro Syariah, Perak Bar (2013–2015), and currently serves as a panel lawyer to Yayasan Bantuan Guaman Kebangsaan (YBGK) under the Perak Bar. She has been a committee member of Persatuan Peguam Syarie Malaysia (PGSM) since 2015, and was appointed to the Committee for the Kaedah-Kaedah Mahkamah Syariah Perak (2017–2021).
Her past leadership roles include Treasurer of Persatuan Peguam Syarie Malaysia (Cawangan Perak) (2018–2019) and subsequently Chairperson of Persatuan Peguam Syarie Malaysia (Cawangan Perak) (2019–2023). She holds a Syarie practising licence in the States of Perak and Pahang and is also an Accredited Mediator.

Sarah Al-Najah

Legal associate

Qualification: Sarah graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) from Multimedia University (MMU) in 2024 and was called to the Malaysian Bar in 2025.

During university, Sarah served as a committee member of the MMU Law Society and actively participated in both law-related and outdoor clubs. These experiences fostered a belief that a successful legal practitioner requires not only strong legal knowledge but also an understanding of broader life experiences, enabling a deeper appreciation of clients’ needs and perspectives.
Sarah’s interest in law was shaped early on through active participation in debate during high school, which cultivated analytical thinking, persuasive communication, and a passion for advocacy — qualities that continue to guide Sarah’s approach to legal practice today.

Norfarah Afiza

Syariah Legal Associate

Norfarah Afiza binti Rahim is a Syariah Legal Associate who holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Syariah from Universiti Sultan Azlan Shah (2018–2020) and a Postgraduate Diploma in Judicial Administration & Islamic Legal Practice (DAIJ) from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (2020–2021). She began her early involvement in professional and organizational roles as Secretariat of the Women Career Convention 2.0 USAS (2018), Deputy Treasurer of Majlis Pimpinan Sahabat Yadim USAS (2018–2019), and Personal Assistant at Dhuha Rashid Resources (2018–2019).

She later served as an Administrative & Marketing Executive at Putra Afiq Global Sdn. Bhd. (2020–2022) and is currently practicing as a Syarie Lawyer in the State of Perak as well as a member of the Perak Syarie Lawyers Association (since 2023). In addition, she is a Panel Lawyer for the Majlis Agama Islam dan Adat Melayu Perak (MAIPk) (since 2024), a Committee Member of the Perak Syarie Lawyers Association (2025–2027), and serves as both a Panel Lawyer and Secretariat for the National Legal Aid Foundation (Syariah) Perak (YBGKS) since 2025.
